White Sauce or Bechamel Sauce is the basic sauce which is used to make many other sauces and therefore also known as Mother sauce! Be it a Pasta, Lasagne, Gratins or Mac & Cheese, White Sauce takes these dishes to a different level altogether. It can even be used in the Pizza base. Today, I am sharing the recipe that I follow for White Sauce. The added garlic in this recipe adds an unique taste to it.

  • All Purpose Flour (APF) । मैदा - 2 tbsp
  • Butter । मक्ख़न - 2 tbsp
  • Hot Milk । दूध - 1.5 cups
  • Garlic Pods । लहसुन - 7-8 
  • Freshly grounded Black Pepper । काली मिर्च कुटी हुई - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt । नमक - to taste


  1. Take butter in a Saucepan and melt it on low flame. Add chopped Garlic and saute for 1 minute. We do not have to wait for the Garlic to change it's colour.
  2. Now, add the Flour and saute on very low flame till the colour changes to light golden.
  3. Gradually add the milk and stir the mixture with the help of whisk to avoid any lump. 
  4. Cook the sauce for 5-7 minutes or till it come to desired consistency.
  5. Add the Black Pepper and Salt. Mix well and turn off the flame.
